Bingewatched Disney Hotstar’s web series, “Taaza Khabar” yesterday, featuring Bhuvan Bam, one of my first favourites when it comes to online content creators. The way he used to create and perform in the various characters himself for his YouTube channel, it was clearly evident that he has great acting expertise. “Tazaa Khabar” just provides him a more polished platform to showcase his acting skills. I absolutely loved the way the narrative unfolds in every episode. The first season is a six-episode series and every episode has been given a separate title. The unfolding of the narrative in every episode follows a particular pattern – it begins with focusing on a particular incident in the past, and then it is linked to a series of incidents in the present, which is kind-of an offshoot of that past incident.
Bhuvam Bam takes forward the series on his shoulders literally and HOW!!! He makes a suave entry into the series as Vasant Gawde, who has become unusually rich in a very short span of time due to a special ‘vardaan’ that he had received one night! He could get information about events/incidents,that are yet to happen, in his phone a few hours before the actual time of occurence. No one else could read or see those news snippets on his phone – it was a special power bestowed on him only. The story becomes more interesting when he slowly comes to terms with this special power and chalks out different plans to encash this opportunity.
I would not reveal the plotline any further, but Bhuvam Bam is going to be the next big thing on OTT if directors and producers do not feel jealous of his solo success and bet on him! He has produced this show, but I hope that he gets the opportunity to work in more OTT projects with meaty roles! His success as a YouTuber has given him a strong back-up to fund his own projects, and hence even if he becomes subject to the dirty industry politics, I hope he will continue his stride as a powerful actor. A big shout out to him for being a man, who actually has a rags-to-riches story in real life as well, like Vasant Gawde, but only with hardwork, consistency and belief in his own skillset.
